When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it affected businesses in so many ways including their employees’ motivation, as well as business systems and cultures. An e-survey circulated by the ASEAN-USAID IGNITE project in November 2022 showed that working remotely was the highest reported human resource challenge businesses experienced by ASEAN Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)s. Transforming Mindsets and Teams lays out basic competence and knowledge for ASEAN MSMEs to triumph in a global economy and level the playing field with larger companies.
One of the biggest challenges faced by the ASEAN MSMEs falls on the human resource aspect due to changes in a working culture that impacts teams’ motivation, engagement, and performance. The question will be how to drive ASEAN MSMEs’ growth in human resource aspects for their continuity during disruptions.
