This is a startup complex resulting from a 2011 joint initiative by National University of Singapore (NUS) Enterprise, the Media Development Authority and Singtel (a telecommunications company) to aggregate a cluster of entrepreneurs. Block 71 has built up a strong innovation and entrepreneurship community, where over 100 entrepreneurs, investors, developers and mentors within the interactive digital media space are within close proximity to each other. Block 71 is a common platform where different stakeholders in a business venture can meet and be connected together. In January 2015 it was announced that the startup complex would be expanded to five more blocks, and will house 750 startups by 2017 under a common complex called JTC LaunchPad @ one-north (LaunchPad). LaunchPad is collaboration between JTC Corporation and SPRING Singapore, which are government agencies in charge of industrial development and economic growth. The new complex will also house the Action Community for Entrepreneurship (ACE) center.
